A 3D model of the Tartu Observatory has been completed

A 3D model of the Tartu Observatory was commissioned by the National Heritage Board. It is part of an international project that is to do with modelling important buildings and objects in the European Union member states.

Commissioned by the National Heritage Board, a 3D model of the observatory was created in collaboration with DataCap OÜ, Geodeesia24 OÜ and Archaeovision OÜ. The aim of the project ‘Twin it! 3D for Europe’s Culture’  is to make the cultural heritage accessible to all. The National Heritage Board chose the Tartu Observatory for modelling since it is on the UNESCO World Heritage list and its Fraunhofer Refractor will be 200 years old this year. The exhibition ‘Two Boys who Dreamed of Stars. Struve, Fraunhofer and the 200-Year-Old Telescope’ will open in the Observatory on 18 April. There you can see the large telescope with a lens made by Joseph von Fraunhofer and learn about the important scientific achievements of Friedrich Wilhelm Struve.
