Tartu Old Observatory will be hosting a week of star-gazing from 25 February-2 March. The two-hour events will start each night at 19:00.

During the February school holidays – weather permitting – the observatory will be looking to the heavens in search of Mars and Jupiter. Information on whether the events can go ahead will be posted on the Tartu Old Observatory Facebook page (Tartu tähetorn) at 17:00 each day. The observatory’s exhibitions will also be open.

“Our red neighbour and the biggest planet in the solar system will be high above our heads in the evenings at the end of February, creating ideal conditions for spotting them from the observatory,” explained Kärt Soieva, the curator of Tartu Old Observatory’s education programmes.

Observations using the historic Zeiss telescope (including general admission to the observatory) cost €3 but are free for children up to the age of 8 and

museum card holders. The telescope in the courtyard can be used free of charge.
