University of Tartu Museum invites to learn Estonian language and culture

A new free course combining Estonian language studies with culture studies will begin at the University of Tartu Museum. The course is also aimed at students and workers at the University of Tartu.

The course is offered at A2+ level, and all classes will be conducted in Estonian regardless of the participant’s native language. Participation is free of charge.

According to the organisers, the course focuses not only on language learning but also on becoming familiar with the cultural environment of Estonia and Tartu.

“We are designing the course in a way that introduces the places and traditions of Estonia and Tartu so that participants can get to know the local cultural space,” said Ilona Piirimägi, one of the course instructors.

During the course, participants will go on field trips and visit cultural institutions. The programme includes birdwatching on the Jõmmu barge and visits to exhibitions at the University of Tartu Museum and the Estonian National Museum, which is also a partner in the project “Stories of Estonia and Tartu: Places, Events and People Through Time”.

Classes will take place on Saturdays (from 1 June to 10 December). Registering for the course includes a commitment to participate from beginning to end. Registration is open until 10 June.
