Making the Invisible Visible: the exhibition “Invisible Tartu. 800 Years Since the Birth of the City” reopens from 28 June

On 28 June, the popular exhibition "Invisible Tartu. 800 Years Since the Birth of the City " reopens in an updated form at the University of Tartu Museum. Originally created for Tartu’s year as the European Capital of Culture in 2024, the exhibition will now become a permanent part of the cathedral exhibitions.

"Invisible Tartu. 800 Years Since the Birth of the City " takes visitors back to medieval Tartu, much of which is no longer visible in the 21st century cityscape. Many layers from that time lie hidden underground, where archaeologists have uncovered exciting finds and new knowledge about Tartu’s earliest inhabitants. There is plenty to discover for both locals and visitors alike.

According to the museum’s director, Mariann Raisma, the exhibition helps connect the past and present of Tartu:
“This exhibition invites visitors to experience Tartu in a way that the everyday cityscape does not offer. We present stories and objects that have remained hidden for centuries and help people understand how the city here has developed. We are delighted that ‘Invisible Tartu’ will become a permanent part of our exhibition and continue to bring joy to visitors in the future.”

During the summer period, the University of Tartu Museum is open to visitors from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00, and on Thursdays from 10:00 to 20:00.
