Enjoy summer evenings on Toomemägi: the University of Tartu Museum is open longer on Thursdays

The University of Tartu Museum on Toomemägi and the viewing platforms of the cathedral tower are open longer on Thursdays from early June until the end of August – until 8 p.m.

During the summer months, the museum welcomes both locals and visitors, offering plenty of experiences so that everyone can enjoy their time, explore the exhibitions at a relaxed pace after the workday, and admire the beautiful view from the cathedral towers.

“We want to make the museum even more accessible in the summer. As the workweek is coming to an end and the experiences of the weekend are still ahead, Toomemägi invites you to slow down, discover exhibitions, and take a walk,” says the museum’s director, Mariann Raisma.

The University of Tartu Museum introduces the unique spirit of the city of Tartu and the university. Here you can find exciting exhibitions about the cathedral and student life. The newly opened exhibition “Is It Easy to Be Old?” invites visitors to reflect on what it feels like to be elderly in today’s society.

Children can enjoy hands-on discovery in the Mad Scientist’s Cabinet and the Cathedral’s Secret Chamber. Starting from June 30, the popular exhibition “Invisible Tartu: 800 Years Since the Beginning of the City,” which has brought joy to both locals and tourists, is once again open on a smaller scale. Among other things, visitors can see a copy of Tartu’s oldest model and try on medieval clothing.

The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Entry is free for holders of the Museum Card.
