On 16 May, Museum Night will take place at the University of Tartu Museum

On 16 May, Museum Night “Night of Voices” will take place. On this occasion, the doors of all three buildings of the University of Tartu Museum (the University of Tartu Museum, the University of Tartu Art Museum, and the Tartu Observatory) will be open from 18:00 to 23:00.

At the University of Tartu Museum (Lossi 25, Toome Hill), a mysterious sound hunt will take place, suitable for participants of all ages. Visitors can also explore the newly opened exhibition “Is It Easy to Be Old?” – the curators will be present, and everyone can cast their vote in the exhibition’s on-site poll. All other exhibitions throughout the museum’s seven floors will also be open.

At the viewing platforms of the Tartu Cathedral, church bells will ring that evening, and visitors can enjoy a beautiful view over the city.

At the University of Tartu Art Museum (Ülikooli 18, Main Building), you can see the exhibition “Voltaire: Making History.” Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore the the Mummy Chamber and admire the display of ancient art. At 21:00 and 22:00., guided tours will begin to the historic lecture halls of the University of Tartu Main Building and to the attic lock-up. Registration takes place at the ticket desk, and places are limited.

At the Tartu Observatory (Uppsala 8), visitors can explore exhibitions and watch the animation “Two Boys Who Dreamed of the Stars: Struve, Fraunhofer and the 200-Year-Old Telescope.” During the evening, the observatory balcony will also be open, offering a beautiful spring view of the city. In the observatory courtyard, the outdoor exhibition “Asteroids – Threat or Opportunity?” will be on display, and at 20:00 the traditional Tartu Observatory band concert will begin.
