Collaboration project of three university museums on 17th century student life "Historical Student Stories for the Modern Students – Building Bridges over the ages and between Nordic countries"
Three university museums with a shared history – the museums of Tartu, Uppsala, and Helsinki universities – have undertaken to explore and communicate topics related to 17th century university life as part of this collaboration project. The project has an educational aim: to explain to today’s school students what studying at university and everyday life was like in the 17th century Swedish Empire. As part of the project, joint international seminars and meetings have been organized, and teaching materials in the form of a museum chest have been developed for schools in all three museums. The main outcome of the project is school-commissioned educational programs together with the "17th Century Student Chest" and a website providing additional information for teachers and all interested parties at https://studentchest.eu/.
The project team: Cecilia Ödman and Leif Hallsén (Gustavianum, Uppsala); Pia Vuorikoski and Merike Holmberg (University of Helsinki Museum); Kaarel Nõmmela and Tiiu Kreegipuu (University of Tartu Museum); with valuable partners including Tartu International School and Miina Härma Gymnasium.
